All About Lash Extensions
Eyelash extensions are individual synthetic or mink lashes adhered one by one to your existing eyelashes. They are almost weightless, feel and look completely natural and are available in different lengths, thickness and curls to create your desired effect. Choice of eyelash designs range from a completely natural (although enhanced) look, a sassier sexy look or the ultimate glamorous look. Whichever look is decided upon, the lashes will add fullness and really open up your eyes making a difference to the way you look and feel about yourself.
How Are Eyelash Extensions Done?
There will be a consultation before we start to establish what look you are after, I will then recommend the best length and curl of lashes to suit your needs and based on the condition of your own lashes, but ultimately the choice is yours. The initial application of the semi-permanent eyelash extensions will take approximately 2 hours. Once we start the application all you need to do is relax and keep your eyes closed. It's totally painless. When you open your eyes, you will have thick, long and beautiful lashes.
How Many Extensions Are Applied?
Anywhere between 50 – 600 individual false eyelashes are applied per eye, the final amount will be dependent upon the size and shape of your eyes and type of look you want to achieve (natural, glamorous or dramatic). I focus on designing and shaping the entire lash line using different lash sizes to create an individually designed look.
How Long Will They Last?
It is normal to lose a few false eyelashes in the first 24 hours whilst the adhesive is setting and care should be taken in this period. Your own lashes shed naturally and new ones continue to grow in a replenishing cycle. We naturally shed 2 – 4 lashes from each eye in a day so they will last as long as the cycle of your natural lash. Touch ups are recommended, every 2 – 4 weeks depending on your individual needs (you must still have over 30% of your extended eyelashes remaining for it to be counted as a touch up). Your after care will affect how long your extensions will last.
Does the Treatment Hurt?
No. The proper application of eyelash extensions does not hurt, the treatment is very relaxing with most clients falling asleep while having the eyelashes applied. The extensions are attached to your natural lashes and not the skin and therefore clients do not feel a thing. Clients are required to lay back on the beauty couch with their eyes closed whilst the procedure is carried out.
How Do Lash Extensions Look and Feel After the Procedure?
Eyelash extensions should look and feel like your natural lashes, and to the untrained eye no one can tell they are not your natural lashes. You should not feel any pain or discomfort in or around your eyes after the procedure. Lashes should be clean and well separated with no clumping or lumps of adhesive visible. Lana has carried out numerous remedial work on clients who have had dangerous and poorly applied eyelash extensions elsewhere where the client has experienced clumping, pain, discomfort, or damage to their own natural lashes – this is not normal!
Can I Still Wear Make-Up?
Yes, you can continue to wear make-up when you wear semi-permanent lash extensions but it is important to use an oil-free make-up and an oil-free makeup remover (oil will damage the bonding agent). You will find you no longer need to use mascara, however, you can still wear mascara on the tips of the lashes but waterproof mascara is not recommended.
Can I Shower and Swim While Wearing Eyelash Extensions?
You should avoid direct contact with water for the first 6 hours around the eye area but after that time they will be fine in water as the bonding agent is waterproof. If possible avoid direct contact with the jets of the shower on the extensions and wear goggles when swimming.
Are Eyelash Extensions suitable for men?
Of course! WHO said only women can have beautiful eyelashes? Eyelash extensions have been one of the best kept celeb guys beauty secrets untill recently. Professional Male Semi Permanent Eyelash Extensions are the hottest new trend to hit the beauty industry! I will choose exactly right lash length, thickness and colour for you. You can have a super natural set of eyelashes which will enhance the beauty of your eyes. Nobody will notice your eyelash extensions BUT everyone will notice how good looking you are!
Do the Eyelash Extensions Damage My Natural Lashes?
Eyelash Extensions don’t damage your natural eyelashes as long as they are applied correctly- separated and not glued together. It is important that your stylist picks individual eyelash extensions of the correct length and thickness, eyelash extensions should not be too long or too heavy for your natural lash. Once you have them done avoid picking at them- glues designed for eyelash extensions are very strong so you can pull out your natural eyelashes together with extension. But what can really damage you natural eyelashes are poorly trained or amateur eyelash extensions 'technicians’, that’s why you should always take a great care in choosing your stylist.
Lana is an Advanced Certified Specialist and uses only the correct amount of glue, separates lashes properly and places lash extension on a natural lash near the eyelash root. It is important that lashes are glued 1 – 2 millimetres away from the root. This ensures a healthy eyelash will continue to grow and the skin on the eyelid is kept clean. Clients should not experience pain to their eyelids or premature shedding of their natural lashes. Lash extensions may be removed with professional lash remover and once the extensions are taken off your natural lashes should remain intact and in its normal condition.
Often wearing eyelash extensions can improve the state of your natural eyelashes. With eyelash extensions you don’t need to use mascara and you don’t have to rub your eyes every day with a cleanser. If you don’t rub your eyes you are not damaging your natural eyelashes in any way so they stay stronger and don’t drop off too soon.
There have been numerous reports in the press that eyelash extensions damage your natural lashes. These reports relate to inexperienced and/or unqualified practitioners, of which there are many about! Ideally find a practitioner through recommendation, or ask to see their qualifications and portfolio (ensure they are genuine photos and not stock photos).
How Do I Prepare My Lashes for Eyelash Extensions?
Come to your appointment with clean lashes. Do not have them permed for 6 weeks prior to your appointment and do not perm them after. Lashes must be clean and free of mascara and make up. Spend extra time washing your lashes the night before your appointment. Please remove all traces of eye make-up thoroughly and ensure your eyelashes are squeaky clean prior to the procedure. Use an oil free make up remover if possible, and rinse afterwards with plenty of clean water.
What is 1:1 (Classic) technique?
1:1 technique is the most popular method in styling eyelashes. 1:1 technique means that a single artificial eyelash is attached to a single natural eyelash one by one, with a bonding agent especially design for individual eyelash extensions. In effect your natural eyelashes look longer and fuller.
What are 2D-6D, xD or Russian Volume Lashes?
With traditional lash extensions, we could only safely attach one eyelash extension to each of your single natural lashes. We can only lash on how many natural lashes you have. This can be disappointing if you have not many natural lashes yet desire a thicker look.
xD Volume sets (also called as 2D-6D, 2:1-6:1 or Russian Technique Lashes) now give even natural-lash-challenged clients the option for volume they have never had before! Opting more for volume rather then length.
Volume Lashes is a revolutionary lashing technique where between 200 - 600 lashes are applied per eye depending on volume desired (in comparison to 50-100 lashes per eye with a Classic 1:1 Set).
Designed to provide as much volume as possible, but in a way that does not overload or damage the natural lashes, this new technique promising the most stunning results. Volume xD eyelashes are superfine and incredibly light, meaning that 2-6 lashes can be applied per natural lash to create volume on any type of eyelash.
They last longer than classic eyelash extensions due to their light weight and the amount applied. Lashes by Lana is one of the first salons in Milton Keynes to introduce Volume Lash Extensions.
